Welcome to the forum. It really isn’t necessary to go all out on Final Cut. You can do some really good editing on iMovie on Mac or iOS. I use it all the time on a iPad Air 2 and Mac Book Pro 13”. My wife and I go to Hawaii and I take my Mavic Pro and I also do some underwater videos. Plenty of effects, sound editing, pretty much anything you need. It is free and very effective. Good place to start, try it for awhile and see what extras you feel you need. There are several good programs in the Final Cut X price range.

awsome thanx for the tips, i got a version of final cut, its pretty intemedating haha, does it export to any beside mp4? i can only seem to get it to export to quick time or mp4. also my vids were 1080 and the 5 min clip is huge at 800mb, how do people upload vids on here and such that big? i exported at super low res to shrink it and it looks terrible, i am pretty confused

Render at high resolution (always / only / forever) and fire off the upload as you're going to bed. I live in the mountains where my upload speed is under 1 Mbps - so I just queue 'em up, and let them upload during the night.

woww oww wowowowowow i just edited a small 5 min vid and the file it saved is 15 gig, how on earth can 5 min be 15 gig, my poor old mac air is struggling to work with this sofware, wow cant believe 5 min can be 15 gig haha,

I, personally, like Premier Pro because it is so integrated into the other Adobe products (such as Lightroom, PS, AE, etc.). I have used it for several years. Once you get over the initial learning curve, it's a breeze. Just my 2 Cents worth...

The editor inside DJI GO4 is actually pretty nice and should cover any beginner needs.
I also just rediscovered GoPro Splice which is similarly intuitive to use and very effective. I haven't tried Splice with Mavic footage or GO4 with GoPro video, but they probably are interchangeable depending on which one you prefer.
They both offer royalty-free music.
Splice has a neat "highlight" feature which auto-clips moments you click as "cool" and inserts them into your project.

Pros: free, in-phone, intuitive, built-in royalty free music.
Cons: no color post processing (except filters), not as powerful or feature-packed as a desktop app.

You probably rendered as an uncompressed AVI, or similar. Render as MP4, at around 50 to 60 Mbps (Megabits per second). Mavic shoots 4K @ 60Mbps. I often render at 70Mbps due to the fact that YouTube will compress it even more, relative to its original size. Big files in - better quality out. But 15GB is way over the top.

ooops sorry i should clarify, it wasnt the finished vid that was 15 gig it was the saved project that was 15 gig, couldnt believe it, the actual 5 min vid was nearly 800mb though and i recorded in 1080, i wasnt planning on doing vids so i am unfamilar with most of the setting on the mavic dji go app. i will check out premeire as i like adobe products, final cut seems ok but it may be a bit over kill for my needs,

Premiere Elements 2018 has 3 different editing spaces. What you want to do is to create a slideshow from your stills. Guided Edit will lead you by the hand. Download the 30-day Trial Version for free at Adobe.com.

.. do u think final cut is over kill

As is ofthen the case, my answer is “It depends.”

♦️What is your goal?

If your goal is to make a reasonably good amature quality video, your iPhone and the free, included video editing software iMovie on your phone is good enough in my opinion.

I edited this video on my iPhone 6S with iMovie, combining content from my iPhone, my old (now lost) DJI Phantom 3 Standard, a iPad, and a cheap waterproof camera.

Thoughts?

At some point it is converting to pro res or avi which are lossless formats during editing, I know almost nothing about mac though so no idea if you can avoid doing that.
It's not needed for basic editing that's for sure.
