This is an interesting article about using drones to fly into a ships exhaust stream to sample emissions.
Pretty cool stuff, some environmental monitoring companies do something similar In the US to monitor for methane emissions from oil refineries and oil fields. They use drone mounted air samplers and multispectral cameras to do it.
