Hi I’m a complete novice at taking these videos but I’m having fun how do you guys edit them without spending $300 on final cut and how do you add music?

You can get lots of downloadable free music from Youtube. For a video editing software, there are a bunch of options, more or less powerful and more or less pricey. I personaly use a gaming computer, as those have a better video card, which is perfect for editing, then I use an older version of Sony Vegas (Movie Studio Platinum 12, CIRCA 2013). As it's older, it's cheaper, and newer PC can handle that program easely, and this program is still more powerful that I can use.

There are many editing applications around and many are either free or offer free versions. There are many easy to use and of course the more complex that you can grow with.

I’ve been using the original Final Cut, Premiere Pro, Avid MediaComposer (because I used to work for Avid), but more recently Davinci Resolve, which has a free version available on their website: Blackmagic Design

Davinci Resolve also allows powerful colour grading and motion graphics etc... The current version is 16 but requires OSX High Sierra or above on a Mac or version 15 on earlier OSX versions. Also available for Windows and Linux.

Adding music usually just requires your chosen audio being dropped onto an audio track in the video editor. Beware very of music copyright though if you plan to publish on YouTube or Social Media.

Other guys on the forum will no doubt add further editing applications you can use.

If your in the Apple camp you can use iMovie. I edit and render 4K video with music using iMovie on my iPad Pro flawlessly.

I have a MacBook but never tried it. Will look. I prefer my windows machine as it has a big monitor and I play games so it sounds like the GPU should help

Depending on how old the MacBook is, it may or may not work. I don’t have one but I have heard some have had issues.

I agree. I assume you are on a Mac since you mentioned FCP. I started with iMovie then transitioned to FCP after a year, which was straightforward since they share the same design philosophy. In your case since you don’t want to spend the $300 I recommend DaVinci Resolve. Runs fast on Mac hardware and is full featured, for free. What real pro editors use on a Mac (in addition to FCP and Adobe Premier). You should have a 2015 or later MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM.

Royalty free music bensound.com amongst others.

Re editing software, I've settled on Premiere Pro, but the other software I tried is Filmora Wondershare. The thing I like about it is there is a free trial to play with it, it's affordable and works well. Plus there are loads of youtube tutorial on how to use it. As a newbie that's important.
