Now I need special CODEC to play some videos

I had my computer hard drive reformatted, now some H265 videos will play on my computer and some will not. what should I look for?

VLC is the most(?) used video software and manages the codecs you're likely to need. It's free, fast, powerful and very useful as a general video player.

The CODECs you need are easily downloadable from the www. You simply need to determine what/which you need. CODECs are available for Apple/MS.

PLUS: If you are recording/editing a lot of H264/265 video, you may wish to ensure you also have adequate RAM. Inadequate RAM may result in drag on playback. So, be prepared to possibly increase RAM. I took my laptop from the packaged 8 to 32 RAM. World of difference on everything video for me!

On a Mac, you need to be on at least High Sierra to play H265 videos in the finder. I use Handbrake to convert them to H264 for my older iMac Pro (mid 2010)
