I just received my second K1 and it's apparently defective. When flying my Mavic, the little radar locator on the bottom left hand of the DJI GO screen just rotates round and round and round...despite compass calibrations. The problem also exists on the Maps application. Has anyone had this problem? Here's a vid:

I have found that most tablets have horrible GPS and compass components, while phones tend to have slightly better ones (or even really good ones). I think it's because they don't expect you to wander around navigating on a tablet.

If you tap the tiny compass icon, it should revert to a straight "north is up" scheme, and that's all I ever use anyway.

Thanks for your reply. That's the problem, tho. The little "N" indicator just orbits around the radar icon about once a minute with the K1...almost like a second hand on a watch. The iPads/iPhones don't have this issue even if they are slightly off.

Are you on 6.0? If so, some have had success by backing up to 5.1.1

I have heard that, so there may be some truth to it. It seems to be a hassle to downgrade, tho. :/

Regarding compass errors on the Shield K1, are you guys keeping the cover on? I've read that the cover has strong magnets that interfere with the compass. Please try it without a cover. I have my Shield K1 arriving next week.

My shield upgraded to Nougat yesterday, not had chance to test it on the Mavic yet, and also DJIGo4 just updated too. Its snowing in Oxfordshire now, so maybe tomorrow morning will be nice.

No magnetic cover whatsoever on my K1; I may be slow, but I'm not that silly. Problem still exists. The compass drift on the Maps app is very consistent. It will rotate a complete 360 degrees every few minutes. No skipping or erratic movement; just a smooth consistent rotation on the app. Am working with Nvidia reps on this.

NOTE: The internal speaker magnets are so strong that the K1 will literally stick to the fridge.

I assume by now everyone here should figure out this Campass rotation is a feature not a problem of the map right?

I can't imagine it being desirable. I think it's a software flaw, myself. My iPad Mini for sure doesn't do it.

I had a Shield once, and the problem is with those speaker magnets. Whatever you do, don't leave it on top of the microwave/fridge/anything magnetic as that will semi permanently knock the compass off. I solved it by doing a factory reset then downloading Field Compass off the play store to do a clean calibration of the compass. It was always a bit sketchy on the compass front, but that solved it for me most of the time. I was on 6.0.

The compass is actually correct with relation to the map view. It's a glitch which allows the entire map view to actually rotate on the screen while open...with North pointing in the correct direction with relation to the map. Simply put, it's the map view constantly changing orientation with relation to the display which is in question.

Yes, but if I've understood correctly, that is a problem with the compass in the Shield, not the Mavic.

Here is the way I look at this so called "issue".
When The app start, K1 shows map with MP real life orientation (say incorrectly point to N instead of S) at bottom left of the screen. At this time assuming the red and blue colored compass is locked(with yellow lock) so that the whole map is not rotating yet. At this point all you have to do is click the red and blue compass to unlock the map rotation, let the map rotate 180 degree so that MP point to S( say your desired orientation) then click r& b compass again to stop the map rotation. Done.

Very good point. However, I prefer the little radar view (either map or compass on the K1, not both)...as I fly way out in the wilderness and the map view has no value. I don't think you can lock the radar view, can you?

Yes you can as long as you lock the rotation

Thanks for your reply, but NOPE...it cannot be locked. Just checked it, today. However, I'm still very glad that we have a relatively cheap way to have HDMI output for Mavic flights via the glitchy Nvidia K1. Plus, my app crashes every now and then...of course, when I'm way out and need to come back. I cleared the cache, too. Ugh! :)

I usually fly LOS at the area near to where I lived so map mean nothing to me. However I tried last night, the GO4 app acted a little different. Today I flew in the field, the map behave well and there was no slow rotation whatsoever. When the yellow lock on, the north is always heading "north". When the yellow lock off, MP is heading related to pilot's viewing direction.

How about using the little "radar screen"? Does the "N" circle around or does it stay put?

If so, I am tempted to order yet ANOTHER K1 to see if my unit is defective. I'd love to keep using the K1 if it would behave as nicely as my iPad Mini 4.

Are you using the K1 as a means to utilize FPV goggles?
