Hi to all the experienced members here

I was hoping to ask a question because of high winds conditions on my farm.

Can one argue that the sheer strength of the Occuync 2 of the lighter Mini 2 would put it at a lower risk of blowing away when compared to the slightly heavier Parrot Anafi which has the weaker wifi?

OR is this an incorrect deduction?

I am making a decision between buying either the Mini 2 or the Anafi (which is supposed to have a significantly higher wind resistance, but can blow away be controlled by the stronger occusync 2?)

Thank you to everyone for your kind advice and input

Best wishes

As stated by OMM a blow away is due to a drone's inability to make headway ( with respect to the ground) against the prevailing wind whilst, presumably, needing to fly up wind to return to home.
Where an increased 'control range' enters consideration is that it perhaps offers a longer period in which the pilot might be able to do something to save the drone, be that an emergency landing in an identifiable and safe place or descending and/or moving into slower winds.
The Mini 2 has a maximum 'speed' of 16m/s, 57.6km/h, I do wish DJI would explicitly state whether this is an airspeed or a ground speed, by inference I think it is the former (does anyone know different?). The manual say you shouldn't fly in wind speeds over 10m/s, 36km/h.
The blurb I seen for the parrot says "Max wind resistance: 50km/h", "Wind gusts (80 km/h)" and "Max horizontal speed: 15m/s" 54km/h.
I would check the likes of youtube to see any 'side by side' comparison

Hi Old Man Mavic and PhiliusFoggg

Thank you kindly for this insight.

I have also reflected upon what you mention. May I ask at what altitude is the air speed quoted regarding drones in general eg 120 metres or 60 metres etc.

I ask this question as a newbie because I have only recently learned that as the altitude increases, then the wind speed increases. I have noted that the youtube videos of the Mini 2 in extreme wind gusts always show low altitude flights (just an observation as a newbie, hence this question arose in my mind). I am in an area where there are frequently high winds.

On another note, may I ask, with regard to activating return to home, do you or anyone else know if I walk to another location during the flight, can the Mini 2 or Anafi return to my new location after activating return to home? Is there a drone capable of this?

Thank you again to

old man mavic and

for all the advice, and to everyone else.

Best wishes

The quoted airspeed is the quoted airspeed, doesn't matter at what altitude. You are the one who has to check what the wind is at the altitude you want to fly at when you want to fly, and make sure it's acceptable...

Don't remember on the anafi, but on DJI aircraft you can change the home point to be either at the aircraft current position or at your position (provided the mobile device you use the app on has a built-in GPS), but you have to regularly do it manually.

generally wind speed increases the higher you go ,and also if there are tall areas around you if you were flying in a valley the wind speed can alter significantly as it is funneled into a smaller space you can alter the home point during flight in the menu either to the home point or to your position, if you land then a new home point will be set when you take off again

@NewbieNewbie How fast are these frequent high winds?
One thing to remember DO NOT set the RTH excessively high, I need 17m to clear trees around the house so my normal RTH height is 23 to 30m. Excessively high wastes power in both the ascent and the descent and may put the drone up into high wind.

How fast are these frequent high winds?,, really is that a serious question, check the weather when you fly with one of the many weather apps to find out, its not set in stone 24/7 365 days what the wind speeds is at a certain height.

Yes it is a serious question. If NewbieNewbie experiences consistently high winds if may not be worth buying a quadcopter drone at all, they do make quite a point of the wind strength. Or it may be better to think of the likes of a an M2P/Z or Phantom etc. etc.

you asked,, How FAST are these frequent high winds?, and putting it as plain as I can here my answer was basically no one knows what the wind speed will be at a certain height on a certain day or time with out checking a forecast and getting a rough idea, or is my answer getting lost in translation here.

I think you are failing to get my point.
Besides, the OP make the comment "I am in an area where there are frequently high winds."
Perhaps the OP is in a better position to provide answers to questions directed at them than you are.

Ah, OK. Thanks, edited post 7 to make the target clear.

UAV is a popular app for drones that shows forecast of wind and gusts at various altitudes.
