Am I correct to say that the maps offered in the DJI Pro App shows restricted and no fly zones? Is there another app that would be better for this?

I intend to fly my new drone in airplane mode my Galaxy S7 so I'm not sure whether the maps feature will actually work on the DJI Pro app with mobile data turned off...

I downloaded a pre-checklist from one of these threads which looks pretty useful but one of the steps is to "load offline maps" and that's the one item on that two page list I can't quite pinpoint on what to do...

Thank you!

No one has answered this yet, so I'll take a shot at it.

My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that the NFZ map is uploaded to the Mavic itself. It does not require a real-time data connection and does not show in the DJI Go map. What you get instead is an NFZ status in the controller.

"Load offline maps" refers to the map window that shows up in one corner of the DJI Go 4 app. Since you are running an android phone, you can cache the maps in Google Maps before heading out for your flight. That way you do not have to deal with the maps being downloaded, or not, in the field. Maps really provide an additional dimension to knowing where your drone is..

BTW, IOS devices can cache maps, sort of. Start the DJI Go app, and zoom in on the area where you will be flying. Leave the app running (can power down the ipad or iphone) until you reach your destination and voila, maps!

In either case, if you have a good cellular data connection, you don't need to worry so much about cacheing maps.

Now that I've cracked the question open a little, you'll get lots of responses that will improve on mine, haha. Enjoy!

This is very old information since google maps haven't been used for months - and caching was at best unreliable.
With Android, on the app start page select menu top right and you can download the HERE maps for your region, which have been used for months.
The areas are quite large like whole countries so note file size if space is tight.

While most of us aren't that keen on HERE over Google, this reasonable map you can have instantly in areas with no mobile cover at all is often a very useful feature.

Good info, 4wd, hanks..

I found the map cache menu item on Android, but not on the IOS version of DJI GO 4. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is map caching an Android only feature?

Actually, for Canada, and I'm sure this applies to US as well, we can download maps for each Province. Thankfully. I can't imagine having to d/l maps for the whole country!

Has something changed in a recent update?
I'm not seeing NFZs on the map at all!
I have the UK offline maps downloaded, but, how do you remove them? (From the app, without going into a file manager.)

Latest version of the Android app ... and still I don't see any NFZ data on the phone app map.
I'm sure I used to see that info there?
Anyone?
