Old Phone For New Mavic 2 Pro

I just got my FedEx notice that my Mavic 2 Pro will be delivered today. I want to set everything up and test it today if possible. I will not get the mount for my tablet for 2-3 more days (if I'm lucky). But I do have an old Samsung S7 that has no service, but has WIFI of course. Can I use it with my Mavic with WIFI turned on?

You should only need WiFi for downloading the app (if needed) you do not need WiFi for the drone.

According to the manual, you have to initially "activate" with DJI. This requires an internet connection.
I'm hoping to be able to use my retired Samsung S6 while piloting and tether via wifi hotspot to my S7 for the initial activation.
I hope this works. I don't have my Mavic 2 Pro yet.

Oh ... thanks for the info. I'm opening my box now, and am walking slowly through all the parts and shapes ....

Just remember that an older phone may not have enough power. I’m not familiar with the Android, but with iOS, iPhone 6 is NOT enough for the current version of DJI Go 4, nor is iPad 2 Mini...I know from personal experience. iPhone 8 is just fine.
