I have a neighbor. son who has an Original Air. He can no longer download the app to his Android phone. We checked with the IOS side and found the same. Is the Air no longer supported ? Please advise.

The Mavic Air is no longer supported by DJI (it has been discontinued), but it's still compatible with the current version of DJI GO 4.

You can download DJI GO 4 from the App Store on any Apple device running iOS 10 or above. For Android devices, use the link Kilrah shared above for downloading the latest DJI GO 4 APK.
