Iam curious to see some of your opinions on this. After trying to fix up an older Mac book and struggling with it. I've decieded it's not worth the money for me to buy a new Mac. I really want to build my own pc just for fun but I worry about trouble shooting and think I may hire it out IF there is customer service involved thats reliable and reasonable . I figure I'll loose 2-5 hundred going through a service BUT it may be worth a headache or three?? Any opinions on this? Any recomendations on shops or on line retailers?
Typical system- i7 8700
Gtx 108i
32gb ssd
Lots of ram
???
Thanks Charlie

PC building is pretty simple nowadays. Most components are easily marked and configured to only go in one spot and in one direction. The hardest part is figuring out which components to buy, as not all are compatible with each other (e.g. AMD vs. Intel, DDR3 vs DDR4). The simplest way is, for your first time, to buy identical components from a build that someone else has done successfully. You'll know they work together that way.

There's also tons of YouTube videos showing each step (probably even for your exact components). In the end you'll get more bang for your buck and the sense of accomplishment you get when it's up and working is worth it. You'll be able to upgrade in the future easily, and your next build will allow you to do even more. Start simple (case, motherboard, RAM, drive, power supply, and CPU) and make sure that turns on and works. Then you can add more components if you like (graphics card, etc.), one by one, and ensure they work. Takes more time to build but is easier to troubleshoot. The problem comes when you install everything at once and it doesn't work. Then you have to backtrack and figure out where you went wrong.

If you can do a fresh install of Windows on a clean drive, you can build a PC.

Amazon and Newegg have all the computer parts you'll ever need.

Budget is 2kish, build would be for video editing on davinci resolve and basic home computing. I do not need a computer for work so this would be for editing go pro and mavic air footage. 4k would be nice

2k will get you an amazing system. 1k is enough to get you going with a decent spec.
You can save some money on the graphics card if you aren’t gaming, but still get something powerful enough for editing.
A smaller SSD (250-500gb)for the OS and a couple of separate normal disks for storage.
8GB of ram is also probably enough, 16GB is normally overkill.
Factor in an external drive for backups!
I love the smell of a fresh build.

Only problem is...I over think/research EVERYTHING! Now iam just down right miserable trying to decide what parts to use. It's way to easy to buy into this stuff !
Lately I've been thinking ryzen 7 1800x?
Then back to i7 8700k
Then all in i9
Then cheap ryzen 7 1700
Then cheap i5 .
NOW IAM SO CONVINCED ITS ALL HYPE, iam watching "best video pc 2016" lol!
Wanna see some build lists? I'll see if I can link pcpartpicker lol. I'd rather buy a new kayak or rifle (antelope opens soon!)or go on a spa Holliday (happy wife)most days lol. I wish i had more real world exsperiene just simply working on a computer. I work with my hands not a mouse.

What about a laptop for the same editing software for the Mavic 2 H 265 format's. I was thinking this would work. I am looking for best for the lowest price. What do you think?.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD IPS w/ 144Hz, i7-8750H, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB, 256GB NVMe SSD & Seagate 2TB Barracuda SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch 7mm Internal Hard Drive Bundle

Yeah I bet that would work. I've only researched desk tops but those specs and parts are very good. Storage on a NAS and a monitor an d your styling! Broke but styling! Crazy how powerful lap to ps are getting! What's this one cost? 1400?

On Amazon for 1199.00

Pretty good price really. There's several good gaming lap tops but I have no idea which is best. But they are all about the same price untill they go way up. It's a hard one for me because I want the best parts and they ad up fast. Same story I guess, look for some upgradability and check reviews. You can find used gaming laptops on Craigslist to but be careful . Wish apple wasn't so messed up on prices!

So many options.

A good newer generation i7 CPU is essential if you're using H265.
32gb of ram
A decent video card. Nvidia 1060 or higher ideally
You can get good 1TB NVMe SSDs which will help speed up editing massively.
Also get a big non SSD HDD for storage

Thats about it. Tons of makes and models within that spec and it'll easily cruise through 4k H265 editing.

My Alienware laptop (late 2016) handles it all fine so a decent gaming laptop is another (but a bit more costly) option.

How do you feel about and? Seems a 7 1700 or 2300x would be good too. I know Intel has a better track record but the ryzen stuff is catching uo?
