And THIS is the reason why the public will get behind any/all anti-drone laws. Forget reckless or unsafe flying. That affects few. But the perception that people are being spied on (whether they are or not), will be the catalyst that will end this hobby. Mark my words.

When I told my neighbor I was getting a drone, he told me to keep it away from his property. I tried to explain to him that I was not interested in peeping but he had his mind made up that that's what drones where for ...he called them "spy machines".
Later I saw him and another naghabor talking.... geeez I'm getttig paranoid.

This really bust my chops, now with all the people worrying about peeping drones and closing their blinds, all us old school in the bushes with binoculars peepers are going to have a much harder time.

Even their own example makes it kind of obvious why it won't work too well having something as noisy as a strimmer a few feet from a window.
Perhaps you could specialise in spying on deaf people.

This was on several national news stations, they caught the guy and had his mug shot so I'm sure it was fact checked before it was aired.
I have no doubt that they checked their facts, but their style of reporting is sensationalism at its best. They are great at creating *be very afraid* news.

That said, this particular pilot is a serious creeper. The story should have been about this pervert, and not so much about the drone - although the fact that he taped up the lights on the drone showed just how depraved this loser really is.

Only thing I don't understand about this whole thing is how do you not hear the drone? Perhaps these people were in on it to make drones look bad?

They are NOT quiet and hardly worth using to spy on people cause they are not covert (NOT a stealth blackhawk)

I guess people will try anything to get a peek at some boobage! lol

Problem Is the word drone, it's the media's evil demon of the moment and lots of people hear the word drones and associate them with reaper drones or such like that they see on the TV blowing up evil people in some far off land, so headline containing the word drone already equates to something evil/bad in many people's minds.
Suits the media, as "toy helicopter/ quadcoppter/ fluffy bunny spy's on woman in her bedroom" doesn't really have the same ring to it, far better to have "pervert with drone spy's on women undressing" or similar

Hopefully something else will come along soon and the media will move on to that, and all these drone stories will just be old news and we can carry on flying in peace.
It's much like the savage killer pet dogs killing every other child stories a couple of years back - and condemning several breeds of perfectly good natured dogs to be vilified in the process, through no fault of their own - Then last year it was cheap Chinese laser pens/ pointers guaranteed to bring down several planes before the year was out.

I have a friend who works on said drones, aka the EVIL ones ;).

They work the same way as the toy ones do, but with nifty government issued stuff ...

I do agree with you Dw911 its all a hype now and it will blow over. Plus I just saw an article about UPS wanting to use drones to delivery packages to remote areas.
