I know from the DJI website that the controller will accept a phone with a thickness of between 6.5 and 8.5 millimeters. This is a very small area and I have looked into several midpriced Android phones (the only ones I can afford) and have found that most of them are a few millimeters thicker that 8.5mm. I was specifically looking at the Moto g4 and g4 plus. Both are listed at 9.3 mm. Since I don't have access to a Mavic I just wanted to ask if the 8.5 mm limit on the controller is a hard limit or is there a bit of wiggle room. I simply cannot pay the high prices that Apple wants for their products, although that is what I see being used most often. Thanks.

Have a look for a used iPod. That might be the cheapest option.

The phone does not have to fit into the slot. I took the end of the wire out of the sliding holder on the arm. Then u plug it into your phone and close the arms on your phone. I leave the case on my iPhone.

Thanks for the info. Without having a controller right in front of me, I'm having a little trouble visualizing your solution, but it's nice to know that there is a way to hook up a slightly thicker phone without having to resort to all kinds of add on pieces. Thanks again.

Take phone plug out of the sliding bracket in folding arm like this. Now it will be able to reach the phone plug without having to fit into the slot. Close the arms on the phone.

Yes... I've used both my new iPhone7Plus and my old iPhone5 with my Mavic controller.. no issues with either. Both fit, iPhone7Plus fits more snug and secure..

Old iPhone5 is now disconnected (no cellular) but still has Wifi access... still seems to allow controller to connect to satellites (not sure if it the controller or the mobile device that controls this)... did a short flight in front of my house. No long range flights yet

Outstanding. Now I just have to wait until DJI fixes the bugs in the newest Go app. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks. Just curious, are your Iphones thicker than the 8.5mm limit the Mavic specs list?

This is what I do since my iPhone is in an Otterbox case. Another option would be to modify the remote controller like this or this.

I have a HTC10 (9mm thickness) and it fits with no problem.
it even (tight) fit's with my ice view cover on!

You can also if needed remove the bottom or top rubber from the RC holder to create even more space! (as shown in the post above)

Thanks for all the info. Makes me glad I found this forum. Got a feeling that I will be back often.

I also use a (Apple silicone) cover when using my iPhone7Plus... and it's tight. But work. I switched to my iPhone5 because I didn't like how tight the iPhone7 w/ case fit.. and the constant engagement on its plug.

iPhone5 (no case) is now dedicated display for Mavic
