Absolutely beautiful day to fly.....grabbed the mavic and iPad mini, out the door to my local field. Turn on my "Hover" app, and the Kp index is 4. Not good. Then I load "B4Ufly" and there's a TFR because Trump's planning on coming to Jersey for the weekend...........grumble,grumble, ****.
Can't win this round.

While the TFR is surely a show stopper, the Kp index shouldn't cause any problems for you.
Thanks, that's good to know. Coming from a Yuneec Typhoon 500 the guideline was 4 was iffy, so this gives me some comfort.

DJI doesn't mention the Kp index in any of their drone manuals. While it might affect some people, the majority of people are not effected by it.

Kp impact varies by latitude. Closer to the poles, the lower the Kp has to be for interference to be dangerous.

I've had no problems at 6-8 on the south coast of England, but I'd hesitate to fly above 5 if I was in Canada.

On UAV Forecast when KP is above 5 it says it's not good to fly. Really ?

5 or below should be ok in north centural US. The only time is was higher then that was during the solar storm last week. I flew, but just keep it in line of sight, didn't rely on the gps.

If you dont like it just drag the dial in settings to something else. Its a meaningless figure as far as flying a mavic is concerned. Plus im assuming you dont live at the north pole.

Unless you've modded parameters for switchable ATTI mode or it kicks you into ATTI mode mode your Mavic is always relying on GPS to fly.

I use an app called "Hover"' and when started up gives a map page and some tabs at the bottom. When I select the "weather" tab I get winds, precip, and a Kp index....that's the one that has issues with radio interference.

I have flown my Mavic with a kp index of 8 with no issues.

A high kp will prevent gps satellites from working correctly. It doesnt do anything to rc signals I dont think. If gos isnt working correctly it'll affect all gps drones.

I've flown DJI products with KP index 7+ and never noticed a single glitch.

I've flown Blade/Yuneec with KP5 and it took FOREVER to get a semi solid sat lock.
