I had my first minor crash with the mini 3 last time out as a gust of wind blew it off the car roof just as the props stopped rotating fortunately the ground was soft so the damage was limited to one prop, when i got the new one out of the bag i noticed for the first time that the orange tips are made of rubber unlike the props i had for the mini 2 SE which were solid, the rubber tip had torn on impact but it wasn't easy to spot so i will check more thoroughly for similar damage when doing pre flight inspections in future.

Is this type of prop used on many DJI drones and is it the reason the mini 3 is much quieter that the Mini 2?

I've noticed them on quite a few of the newer drones, they're a 'safety feature' that just happened to alter the sound generated by the spinning blades.

The older style of rotors would give you a really nasty cut if you got your fingers in the way, hence the introduction of the silicone end sheath, the worst for chopping up your fingers are the MAS props - which bear a striking resemblance to one of those vicious little double ended blades you find at the bottom of an electric spice grinder.
