I know these guys have been using drones for a few year, but this was on local news last night

I have been involved in some training with the QPS, and recently with the mav enterprise they have been conduction flights around some suburbs at 2 in the morning. Next day, warrants issued for homes that seem to have very warm roofs, that really standout at that time of morning.
Nearly a 100% strike rate of finding hydroponic setups in roof cavities. Great environment for growing “herbs”

Do you not have "privacy" laws against such searching? Granted I live in one of the strictest states in the US in terms of privacy so I may be reaching out a bit.

It just doesn't seem right to get a search warrant from a Hot Spot search at night. It's funny I used to raise some high end CORALS and we had some pretty exotic lighting on our reef tanks. The comment was made more than a time or two of, "If the Po Po comes by here at night they are going to think you're growing some Whacky Weed from the lights you've got going."

Thought this was code for weed and reefer irrigation, lol ?

I expect our laws would allow flir imaging on 'routine' flights, picking up unusual things, enough for suspicion of such activity, and to get a proper search warrant.

They also monitor power bill's here as those lamps draw so much power. When a normal bill goes from 100 bucks a month to 400 every month it throws a flag. Not enough for a warrant but enough to cause them to be watched .

once again new tech and no clear rules. I only know at this stage, Queensland Police are gaining warrants to inspect roofcavities due to an observation of unusal thermal activity while they may be "practicing night ops".

I was talking about that to a friend who works at RACQ a few months ago. When there's a major accident, the roads that blocked off and there's a slow process of gathering evidence before they even start to clear the wreckage and open the road again. I said to him they just need to get a drone, and map the whole accident scene quickly, clear the debris and let the traffic flow again. Good to know they are doing it now. Accidents tend to happen just prior to peak traffic, some folks rushing to beat the traffic, only to cause an accident and the results in major congestion at peak hour traffic.
