Observation tower in Winterthur is located on the Brühlberg, between Töss and Wülflingen. It stands at an altitude of 547 meters above sea level and its viewing platform is 34 meters high.
It was the PTT transmission towers that partially replaced the earlier observation towers. The classic example is the tower on the Bachtel, which had to make way for the new PTT tower in 1986. The cantonal preservation of monuments only managed to store the parts of the tower. After a heated argument that went as far as the federal court, it was possible to rebuild it on the Pfannenstiel in 1992. In 1973 the new building was erected on the Cholfirst, followed in 1983 by the Irchel transmission tower, built jointly by the municipality of Buch and the electricity works of the Canton of Zurich. The system on the Brühlberg in Winterthur finally achieved the height record in 1994. It is a broadcasting station, as it was called at the time, in the form of a slender reinforced concrete structure. The tower stands at an altitude of 547 meters above sea level and is 130 meters high. One year after the opening, the Rieter company donated a viewing platform as a gift to the people of Winterthur on the occasion of their 200th company anniversary. The viewing platform at a height of 34 meters can be reached via a spiral staircase with 176 steps attached to the outside of the tower. A fireplace with seating at the foot of the lookout tower completes the beautiful facility, which can only be reached on foot.
