Today I went out to test the range improvements achievable by reflectors when used on the RC of my M2P. The craft was in CE mode and very much to my surprise, with just the stock antennas, there were still 2 ~ 3 signal bars at 6.7 km out where I had to return because the battery was low. Throughout the flight, the signal remained stable and the video feed was not interrupted in any ways. As the result, I was unable to test the range gain of the reflectors.
It is generally believed that the range stated in the spec ( 5 km for M2 in CE mode ) is only achievable under very ideal conditions but now it seems that the figure is a conservative one. If the battery is not a limitation, I have good reason to believe that the range can be close to 8 km.
The craft has not yet been updated to the latest firmware .670 which is supposed to bring some range improvement. It's still running .510.
