Why is everyone in a Tizzy about this? Those of you that are upset must have just emerged from your caves. RC Airplanes have been above the clouds for years and have gone higher than any drone has. Oh, they've also been flying super far away from the ground station with ZERO LOS.
The issue is probably the influx of novice users into RC drawn in by the drone crowd , mainly Mavic drones due to their popularity . Most long range FPV pilots are well experienced in the RC hobby and have kept a low profile whereas Bobby that just brought his first ever flying RC toy from the big box store wants to go all the way across town as high as he can on his maiden flight then post the cached video on youtube to ask why it didn't come back .
The sheer number of drone buyers in the last couple of years is staggering compared to the number of RC plane pilots .

What is the problem with your toy at that altitude? Simply asking the question shows you have no idea what you are doing. Controlled airspace is for trained pilots flying real aircraft, not geeks playing with their toys.
