Ok done research and want to make sure I did it right. I plan to fly under the recreation exception.
1) I got my Trust
2) I read and will follow the rules of the AMA (CBO)
3) I registered my drone and got a FA number I put on my drone.

Here is the question I have a mini 4k (under 250g, 238.8 to be exact). I want to put prop guards on it since I am learning to fly. This puts the weight over 250g (261g), so if I am correct I have to register it since it is over 250g at takeoff. So I put my FA registration number on it.

Even though the drone broadcasts a FAA ID, the model is not FAA approved. Do I need a separate FAA ID or is the one in the drone ok?

I should be good to go to fly it with the recreation exception.

A much better idea is to fly well away from obstacles.
Keep away from trees, buildings, powerlines etc.
When there's nothing to hit, it's very hard to get into trouble.

You'll be fine

I second the above advise.

That is all correct, good research

Thanks all.

Meta4 great advice, I fly in my back yard (3/4 acre) with a couple of trees so pretty open, but have already trimmed some leaves off

From what I read, as a recreational flier, I thought blades had to be covered? Please correct me if I am interpreting it wrong.

Prop guards ain't all that Brother unless you are inside then it doesn't matter (STOP OVER THINKING IT) Have fun it's not rocket science

Incorrect, you can fly without prop guards. My Mavic 2 Pro has a setting to fly as a beginner. See if your model has the same feature too. It keeps you going slow no matter how much you push the sticks, will not let you fly higher than 50 ft and no further away than about 150ft. I think, it's been a long time since then. That keeps you flying in a safe manner until you get used to things.

I flew like that for the first hour or so then turned it off. Be vigilant when flying early on and you should not have any problems. In a large open field, practice flying in a large square that you determine the size of, facing away from you.

Do the same facing you with the camera, then practice the same thing in a side ways position. Then try flying a circle facing in and out etc. and soon you will be finding it is all coming together and you should soon be ready to head out and have some fun.

You can put the prop gaurds away. You may never use them I use them when I know for sure I will be around people I cant avoid, such as when doing fence line security,, there is a small chance I may fly over someone on the ground. I put them on just to satisfy part 107 and insurance carrier rules only..They make your Drone's flight response terrible.
