I was wondering and I haven’t had time to test and I’m not good at looking at those things anyway what would give me better footage the micro 4/3 camera zoomed to 2.4 or switching over to the 2.5 lens

Definitely the 2.5x telephoto because it is optical, while the main 1x lens at 2.4x is all digital. You'll see the difference if you use Explore Mode in video and use the zoom scroll from 2.4x to 2.5x as it switches cameras. The image will go from pixelated to sharp.

GadgetGuy is right by the numbers but I expect, few could tell the difference. I only have the 3 Classic so can’t test this but if you’re comparing cameras on the 4Pro, you have a very high quality state of the art 100mp 4/3 sensor (yes I know its a 25 mp quad bayer sensor so not fully 100 mp but tests show significant quality improvemnets). But if it were only 25mp’s, the zoom would make it a 10mp image. Better resolution than most computer monitors. I have a 3ft high print of a lions head on my wall taken with an old 6mp Nikon D70 and 200mm lens. If I look very closely at the eye, I can see the reflection of the jeep I was photographing it from. No-one has ever said, “that looks like a low res image"
It would be an interesting comparison, as a photographer, I have wondered the same as bkushner many times and probably the reason I haven't forked out for the 4pro yet. Probably even less of an issue with video since cinematic frames are quite soft anyway.

For video, which is specifically what the OP is asking about, in Explore Mode, one can clearly see the change in sharpness/resolution on the screen, as it switches from 2.4x digital on the main MFT camera to the optical 2.5x camera. Digital zoom is usually still quite useful at 2x, but starts noticeably degrading once above 2x.

With stills, to your point, you don't have the benefit of the side to side comparison, unlike with a continuous video, so the difference, will likely not be noticeable at normal print sizes and on web displays.

Thanks GG, something that makes side by side comparison tricky is the excessive (IMO) sharpening added by DJI. I suppose they aim to make it the best right out of the camera but is it the same across the 3 cameras.
