R5306C is part of the Cherry Point Marine Base structure but is not located within the base proper and is more than 5 miles from the primary air base. It encompasses an alternate landing field named "Bogue" and extends from 1200' AGL to 17,999' MSL. It's primary use is for AV8 Harrier ops. There are two small private airports also located within R5306C. I'm wondering why this prompts a NFZ when the restricted space doesn't begin until 1200' agl? My location is also within the field's Class D airspace which should only require notification, unless military fields have different requirements. Any thoghts?

It's not because of restricted airspace, it's because of the landing field. DJI is putting authorization zones around airports. Those two private strip each have their own authorization zone, also.

When you say "landing field", do you mean a miltary field? I fly in Class D (less than 5 miles) airspace associated with Coastal Carolina airport and it only reminds me to contact the facility prior to take-off.

My use of landing field was in specific reference to Bogue, since you mentioned it, not to military field in general. Either are irrelevant. DJI has put authorization zones around civilian and military fields, even within other classes of airspace. Both Bogue and Coastal Carolina have Class D airspace, which as you say only require notification to the facility. However, they both have an authorization zone, which requires an unlock code if you get close enough.

I’d recommend AirMap whenever possible. DJI is still not authorized by FAA to grant clearance via LAANC to fly and the maps DJI shows are different than authorized providers. Check it out about half way down the page below:
