I was testing out the run time on my new Mavic in my backyard today. I had it directly over its home point and was only 4' in the air. The problem was at 15% battery, it started ascending and moving far away from its home point.

I was able to cancel RTH just in time as the battery got down to 11% before I was able to get it back to me. This does not sound right AT ALL. Please tell me if I have a defective unit or not or if there was something I did wrong.

Let's take a look at your TXT flight log. Please upload it here and post a link back here.

See my link above.

I saw the 'browse' button from your link, but I'm on my laptop not the ipad mini I was using with my controller

"Need help finding your flight log? For Android devices, connect your device to a computer via a USB cable and go to "DJI/dji.pilot/FlightRecord". For Apple devices, see this video for instructions on retrieving your log from iTunes. After retrieving your log, click the "Browse..." button above to upload it (don't upload it at HealthyDrones.com)."

you can find your flight log on your sd card. sd card what is in the mavic. and if you connect your mavic to the computer and start the assistant 2 dji software, you can find the logs.

You'll need to retrieve the TXT flight log from your iPad Mini using iTunes.

OK, I uploaded the file. How would you analyze this in order to detect what went wrong?

Please post a link back here so we can see your uploaded flight log.

You mean the flight record file I already uploaded via your link?

Yes. After uploading your fight log, you'll need to copy and paste the URL from your web browser. Otherwise, nobody else will be able to find it.

It's a file in a folder on my desktop - no URL involved.

Bottom line is I just need to know when my battery was low, what would cause my Mavic to automatically ascend to 30meters and fly several yards away from its Home Point when it was hovering 4 ft over it's home point the entire flight. It is SUPPOSED to not ascend when it is within a certain (close) distance and altitude when RTH is activated, either automatically or through operator, correct?

Ah, well, if that's all you need to know -- no, it's not supposed to ascend when it's directly over the home point.

So now I'm worried that it has a bug of some kind and can no longer trust it if it malfunctions on something as basic as this. :(

There's no need to worry. If you review your flight log, it'll most likely reveal what happened.

Your TXT flight log includes more information. It would be best to review that instead.

Ok... just a quick bit of info on runtime. I know the logs will give more info and I know ur concern is the waypoint issue. I've had that as well. It could be a compass issue.. or a phone GPS issue. BUT just want to quickly bring up a point here. LIPO batteries as nasty puppies. The quickest way to damage ur MP batteries would be to run them past 15% power left. I can get SUPER technical and explain why, but I don't run any of my craft beyond or below a 25 to 20 % remaining power. I've seen pilots testing max runtime and drain the batteries beyond 15%. Then 3 flights later they would be flying the craft and would hit 25% power.... then boom it would drop from 25% to 10% in 5 secs flat... And then havoc strikes. Always be safe with lipos. Never drain them to low as it damages the individual cells in the batteries

I know you want the quick answer to your dilemma, but there is no answer without knowing what the status of your inputs , the craft and your battery were at the time. The aforementioned logs have the answer, and @msinger can read them. If you just post the info as described, the sooner you'll know. These guys know what's going on!
