Air 2s Roanoke marshes light House Manteo North Carolina

Ahh. Takes me back to our fabulous tour down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stayed at Roanoke but did not see the marshes. Lovely shot.

Good pics!! Nice looking lighthouse!

Not sure why it’s called the Roanoke marshes however the lighthouse is actually in Manteo North Carolina. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great evening.

Wiki: Roanoke Island is in Dare County on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It was named after the historical Roanoke Carolina Algonquian people who inhabited the area in the 16th century at the time of English colonization.

In 1585, Roanoke Colony was Sir Walter Raleigh's first attempt at establishing a permanent colony in North America, which failed, followed by another attempt in 1587 (The Lost Colony).

On the Western edge of Virginia, Roanoke county & city, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, was founded much later (1740) by Scotch-Irish immigrants, who accounted for much (along with English and German) of the migration to the frontier settlements East of the Appalachians. The colonists it seems, were not inclined to migrate to the frontier areas at any time over the first 200 years, even after passage through the Cumberland Gap was established (1773). The Scotch-Irish, who began emigrating from the Ulster Provinces in Northern Ireland around 1720, after generations of oppression by the British (who'd established Ulster as a Protestant bulwark against the Catholics occupying most of Ireland) were a hardy bunch, lured by cheap land, willing to endure constant resistance by the natives. The route for many immigrants was primarily through Philadelphia, along the Great Wagon Road through the Shenandoah Valley and later (after 1750), through ports in Maryland and Virginia. I'm generalizing here...

From the OBX to the Blue Ridge mountains, Virginia is a beautiful state for sure.
