This is exactly why you had the warning, if you had the tips pointed at the aircraft??The "flat faces" of the antenna should be facing the AC....
If you had the tips "pointing" to the AC, you would be getting diminished signal to the AC and more suseptable to interferance.
Follow @Flycaster 's antenna configuration with the flats of the antenna facing the aircraft.
The antennas on the craft are flat circuit boards in the front legs, they are angled to try to make them parallel to Remote Controller
