So,.... The camera in the Air 2 is the same as the one in the Evo 2 8k?

I’ve heard it twice now, by two separate reviewers. The sensors obviously aren’t manufactured by DJI or Autel, they’re simply sourced.. And evidently the one in the Air 2 and the Evo 2 is the same.

Has anyone else heard this?

I never heard of that but I’d be interested in reading the reviews where you saw this. If you could post a link I’d be very gratefu! ?

I heard that today on a YouTube video titled ‘Mavic Air 2 After the Hype’ done by OriginaldoBo. It was the first time I had heard that also. Thanks for the specs comparisons.

They both have the same sony quad Bayer sensor but each company uses different software to get to most out it. there the same but a little different.

Many cameras share the same sensors but that doesn't mean the cameras are the same.
There's a lot more in a camera besides the sensor.

The Sony chips are from the same family in both drones. There are subtle differences between various subtle variants. As pointed out by others, the software will be the gating item. The sensor “image” is not visible until the software translates the raw Bayer Image into an RGB image representation. This translation software is written by each drone supplier for their own use, and is not at all standardized. In the case of DJI in addition to translating the image, they adjust it for the DJI lenses which have their own unique distortions.

To further complicate this, this particular sensor has 2 modes of operation. A 48 mp imaging for bright lighting, and. 12 mp image for when the light is dimmer. How this translates into actual images is under software control, and varies between raw and jpeg, and is handled differently by image editing software.

As you think about this, don’t forget that each drone has different lenses By different manufacturers. These different lenses make huge differences as well.
