we can speculate as much as we want but only DJI knows why they changed the thread between these 2 controllers. the old N1 has a M3 female on the module whereas the RC controller has a male M2 thread on the controller. so that makes the use of your previous sticks or even custom sticks unusable. after unsuccessful attempts to find M2 to M3 adapters or spacer rods here my solution:
connect a M3 and M2 nut together (i used soldering) and voila.
see the attached pics. sorry, does not look super clean and beautiful but it works as proof of concept and you get the idea. during soldering i put a M3 screw and a M2 screw in the corresponding threads to avoid filling up with solder.

have fun with your old interchangeable sticks now

Why do this when you can purchase the sticks? They are very inexpensive.

You are right, I just don't like to just buy new stuff when I easily can reuse existing items. And other part is I need tinkering😊
But it looks like junk.

ok i need to confess the solution does not work 100% for the following reason: the M2 nut diameter is slightly bigger than a regular control stick therefore the stick motion is a little bit limited because it interferes with the edge of the gimbal motion. again it works but it has limited motion range - maybe 5% less
