Hello from Grantham, PA.

I just found out my 80-year-old mother purchased my sister's family and my family Mavic Mini drones. It turns out a doctor of hers has one and told her how much fun they are. That was enough for her to decide both our families needed one, so she ordered for each family. So sometime next week we will join the ranks. In the meantime, I've been perusing the forums, working on my skills with an iOS simulator app, and getting ready for lift-off.

Looking forward to learning more now that I'm here!

Craig

Welcome to the forums - a lot of good info here. So, take a look around and hope you enjoy some of the fine photography and information posted by the members.

Welcome to our forum, from Texas.

Kudos to your mom, Craig! You'll find that the Mini almost flies itself. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual (link below), and practice using "Find My Drone". Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under less than ideal conditions. We have over 100,000 members from around the world who will help you learn your new hobby. Ask for help when you need it. Share your work when you can!

Glad you've joined us!

That's great. You will love it. If you have any questions, LMK and I will try and help. Check out my channel when you have time. Be careful in the wind with your Mavic Mini.

Welcome to the forum from the beautiful woods of Maine!
Cyborg is spot on! Take your time and make sure you check the RTH (return to home) altitude and the emergency parameters before each takeoff or you could cause a crash.
Fly safe and stay safe!

Welcome! I fly a Mavic Mini and it is incredibly fun. I've had a few close calls and my heart was in my throat, but I purchased the DJI Care Refresh plan ($39) when the drone was new, based on recommendations in this forum. Here's the link for the Mini. I don't plan to EVER crash my drone, but... I'm covered if it happens! (and I'm covered if Uncle Willy sits on it!)
I think you have 48 hours after the drone is activated to purchase this plan (if you choose to) and it lasts for 12 months. Read and understand the details first, of course.
It will not only protect your drone in case of a crash, but it will also cover water damage and give you added peace of mind when you are flying. Once again, no one PLANS to crash their drone, but these Mini's are not toys. They cost real money and who wants to explain to Mom that they crashed their wonderful gift?
Understand, however, it only repairs or replaces a drone if you can send the (damaged) drone to them. If you LOSE your drone, you have no coverage under this plan. How can that happen? That's a whole 'nother subject, just know that you must be able to return the (damaged) drone to DJI in order to get a (repair or) replacement. (which will cost $40 the first time)
Once again, I don't PLAN to crash my Mini, but I'm covered if that happens...
Happy flying.
