I've learned a great deal from reading this Forum for a few months, and finally decided to join in the fun. I live aboard and cruise on our 50' trawler in southeast Alaska, and I've been having a ball learning to fly and shoot video with the Mavic Air, as well as editing with PowerDirector 17. Here's my latest effort - still learning, but improving with every flight. More videos can be found on my cruising blog: www.mvadventures.com. Strictly fun, nothing commercial.

One request - with all due respect to all the wonderful contributors here - can you folks go easy with the "guys" and "sir" stuff. Some of us drone pilots are gals!

I was flying the Mavic from my dinghy because there was a young (sub-adult) brown bear hanging around. Now I'm learning to hand-catch so I can stay away from shore when wildlife like that is nearby.

Nicely done! It was pretty cool to see the bear walking out of the trees with the overhead shot! SE AK and the whole inside passage is a special place.

Love the “reveal” in the beginning where you fly between the two mountains to show the water there. Definitely a unique landing hazard!

Nice

Good one! But landing at the end can be cropped out ))

You're absolutely right, but I left it in since the video was intended to be part of a Blog entry, and it was relevant to the story I told in the post.
But that brings up an interesting thing to think about - how to make the videos stand alone and tell a story without additional narrative. I'm primarily a still photographer, but the Blog allows me to put some context around the (primarily travel) photos. Now I'll try to challenge myself to plan flights/shoots to tell stories without words.

Such a rugged, unspoiled wilderness you have up there. Thanks for sharing with us. Glad the bear didn't get you! I don't usually have that kind of interruption when I come in for a landing in Utah.

Great video. Passing through the gap to get a view of the lake was nifty. I guess those are salmon jumping all over the water surfaces? Nice fishing hole. And, including the brown bear, this all is quintessential Alaska. Thanks for sharing!
