Glad you knew of the 60m rule John, nice footage considering this.

Here in South Oz it is 300m !!!
NSW 100m, I wish all states could be the same, and make it 60m, ha ha

There have been specific scientific research / reports that drones don't bother whales or dolphins unless closer than approx 15m.

Very nice. I love whales. My wife and I have seen plenty of Humpback whales off Hawaii and Alaska. Unfortunately, I wasn't into flying a drone at the time.

Thanks oldfartflyer. They were 20 meters off the coast. That is extremely close and people who were watching thought that the mother was in some pain or illness. I think the mother was training the pup. In this case the danger of getting too close to the land and how to get out of the danger of breaching. I have 2 hours of footage and it is obvious to me that about one third of the time was the mother training the pup such as diving for long periods.
I used the Mavic Mini 2. I need to change the original post, so if someone can tell me how to change that.
