State Farm insurance

Contact your home insurer and ask about an excess liabilty umbrella policy. Usually very cheap, and will cover you for just about everything. Just make sure there is not an aircraft exemption in the policy.

Concerning an excess liability policy, keep in mind that it may not help you if you are using your drone for business purposes. Ask that question specifically of your agent. You will need to get a business liability policy if you are earning any money with your drone.

I spoke with two State Farm agents in the Los Angeles area and neither were familiar with the type of drone coverage you are mentioning.
Maybe this type of coverage is not offered in the state of California?
That is possible. But it IS offered in Georgia. I have it. ASK ANOTHER STATE FARM REP. I've read multiple posts about one agent saying there is no such thing and then driving right up the street to another State Farm agent and having zero issues and getting in and out the door in 15 mins and a $60 swipe on your debit card.
Keep asking. I highly recommend it.

*also, it worth noting to try and get some time under your belt without filing a claim. Like, at least the first year... They might cancel if they feel your scamming or just not a careful responsible adult. Right?
And if you DO file a claim sometime, expect to get an immediate check to repurchase, however, you'll be giving state farm your controller and abything else that might remain under that coverage... Just saying you're not keeping the controller and selling it on eBay or something....

if you ask for drone insurence they 9 times out of 10 will not know there is coverage but it is not under drone insurance, contact your local state darm agent and tell them you want a personal articles policy,i went thru this in ny state, then when i purchased the personal articles policy i added mostly everything, the drones, the apple ipad mini's, all the batterys, tablet mount, strobes etc etc, just have serials and store recp.

Coverage is not available in California.
I was unable to add my tablet(s) to the personal articles policy that covers my Mavic. I was told that there were just too many claims from clients wanting to replace thier cellular phones and tablets that Statefarm has no longer allowed coverage under the drone personal articles policy.

I see that a poster above indicates that they were able to include thier tablet under the policy so I may need to revisit this with my agent.

Keep asking different agents... It's THEIR CHOICE. There is NO law that says they HAVE to cover you. Shop around, for crying out loud. We're STILL in a capitalistic society, right? At least for the moment before we're all socialists I would incourage you to "shop around." That's what makes America great. With Effort and Drive To Do Better, you can accomplish what you want. Please extert some effort.

Shop around please (and vote with intellectual introspection) before you just assume State Farm (or your country) as a whole won't cover you(or help your interests) after one febal attempt at a phone call or you don't get what you want. We're not 10 year old crybabies.... This is not a lazy person's hobby... Or Country. Lol.

Drive there in person, please, and ask them.

Minimal effort like ringing a phone won't get you coverage nor a job here.
You have to get it.

Quick question on the State Farm coverage, did you have to buy the drone new? Or, does it make no difference of it was new or used?

It does not matter if it is brand new or used. You will need an authentic receipt from the seller that will be provided to Statefarm indicating the full purchase price.

This will be the value that is covered. I purchased mine new and that means I would be receiving quite a bit more than the current cost of a new Mavic UNLESS depreciation is figured into the claim. Which I am sure they would.

Even with thier formula for depreciation the resulting compensation for loss would exceed the current cost of replacement.

Thanks, I wonder if they would accept an eBay/PayPal receipt. Will call tomorrow and find out.

Pretty sure the policy is replacement cost and not actual cash value.

I too got a quote for $75. They made a point of telling me that it DOES NOT cover commercial operations, which I knew, but here's a question. Does my being a Part 107 pilot mean that EVERY flight is commercial, or do I need to pick and choose with each flight if it's a for fun flight or a for $$ flight!
I have a similar question. I am planning on getting my Part 107 license so I can register for volunteer Drone Search and Rescue. I am not planning on any business ventures where I would get compensation for using my drone. Will my State Farm Insurance still cover drone loss in this situation?

If you have a 107 number on it , it’s commercial.
This stuff can turn into fraud real quick. Please talk with your agent, don’t assume.

They are not going to ask a lot of questions... at most, perhaps what you were doing at the time of the flight. In every case I'm sure the answer is, flying for fun.

Nope and nope.

First no. Second, as far as 1st party coverage is concerned, if you were flying for fun and have a 107, it does not matter... it's still for fun to the insurance company.

If that works for you.;) Myself, I’ll go with what my agent says.
It’s a silly debate anyway. If you are commercial you should already be insured to the maximum, equipment and liability.

So for clarity, State Farm will definitely pay out msrp to replace your drone? I have seen this comment a time or two, but hoping someone has a definite. I luckily purchased mine at a discount price, but if I had to replace it, it would be msrp I'm sure. That's the concern.
