Hey everyone,

It’s been over a year since the Mini 4 Pro launched, and I was wondering — is DJI even planning to release a Mini 5 Pro (or a Mini 5 at all)?

We’ve seen steady updates in the Mini lineup every 12–16 months, but it’s been quiet for a while now. With the Mavic 4 Pro announcement coming up, I’m curious whether DJI will follow it up with a Mini refresh or not.

Also, does anyone know why DJI stopped releasing non-Pro Mini versions? The Mini 4 Pro dropped, but there was no Mini 4, unlike what they did with the Mini 2 and 3 series. Will the Mini 5 series follow the same trend — only a Pro version and nothing else?

Would love to hear your thoughts and rumours. It’s getting hard to wait without knowing what DJI is planning!

Thanks!

That's not too bad. It also seems typical for DJI, as the time between releases usually increases as a specific drone model matures.

The Mavic 3 was released in 2021, and we're only now seeing a new model in 2025.

As for your question, I'd be very surprised if DJI didn't release a Mini 5 (Pro). The Mini series has been pretty popular over the past several years. Some people have even claimed there are Mini 5 Pro leaks in the wild.

You are in India. The vast majority of our forum members are U.S. based, where U.S. Customs holds on DJI imports and tariffs are severely affecting any new DJI releases. The U.S. also represents roughly 70% of DJI's worldwide market, so this will definitely affect any future DJI plans. Speculation abounds about DJI's plans, but they have adapted well in the past. Stay tuned.

I know it's been a minute but folks may have forgotten about Covid 19 and the dent it put into the development process especially when it comes to parts and chips. Sometimes it takes years for the effect to wear off and it may not be apparent the customers who are focused on drone launches. These companies usually have a bunch of products ongoing in the pipeline and I still believe it take 12 to 18 ordinarily to make a drone model from start to finish and that doesn't count the [elongated] pauses. As these drones get more complex and the rules and regulations go deeper across the world, it's only going to get harder. And what we are going through today with customs and tariffs, expect the future drones to experience issues as well. Some drones never made it, apparently the next FPV kicked the bucket which is sad to see.

Honestly, I personally think these derivative drones are just a distraction but I understand why companies do them for cost reasons. These drones make more sense near the middle of the lifecycle, not in the beginning. Also I don't understand the Flip but that's just me.

I have a feeling that one might turn out to be a one-hit wonder like the Spark.

I can't see why it needs to be an annual release, in fact I wonder if annual releases are the best strategy sales wise? I'd much rather they waited until they had some worthwhile improvements to add to the table than feel that they have to release something every year.

Hey everyone, really appreciate all the responses — lots of solid points here.

@msinger Totally agree that DJI’s release cycles get longer as models mature. The Mini line definitely seems like it has room for one more update though — and yeah, I’ve seen some whispers about Mini 5 Pro leaks too. Fingers crossed!

@GadgetGuy Ah, right — I’m in India, so I hadn’t factored in the impact of U.S. customs and tariffs. Makes sense that DJI might slow things down globally if their biggest market is facing pressure. Still, I hope they don’t delay everything for too long.
This is the tax calculation as far as I’m aware, and there may be changes or exceptions I’ve missed — but yes, India does have strict policies on drone imports.

1. Basic Customs Duty (BCD):

20% on drones (was increased in recent years to curb imports and boost domestic drone manufacturing).

2. Integrated GST (IGST):

18% on most drone imports (charged on the value + BCD).

3. Other Charges (minor but may apply):

Social Welfare Surcharge: 10% of the BCD (effectively adds ~2%).
Example Calculation (approx.):
If your drone costs ₹100,000:
• BCD (20%) = ₹20,000
• Subtotal = ₹120,000
• IGST (18%) = ₹21,600
• Total = ₹141,600

Effective total import tax = ~41.6%

@mavic3usa That’s a great reminder about COVID’s long-term ripple effects. Development cycles are definitely more complicated now, especially with tighter regulations worldwide. I also hadn’t realised the new FPV was shelved — that’s disappointing.

@ThaiSky Fair point — I don’t necessarily want rushed updates either. I’d rather have a meaningful upgrade than just yearly releases for the sake of it. But at the same time, it’d be nice to have some clarity on what’s coming.

September rumored for the Mini 5 pro.
That’s exciting if true! We’ve been waiting a long time for the Mini 5 Pro. September sounds realistic given DJI’s usual launch patterns, especially with the Mavic 4 Pro dropping soon. Hope they finally bring some meaningful upgrades and maybe even a non-Pro version this time too. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Does anyone know what’s going on with DJI’s strategy of releasing only “Pro” versions lately? The Mini 4 didn’t have a non-Pro version at all. Is this the new norm for future releases, or is there still a chance we’ll see both Mini 5 and Mini 5 Pro variants? Would love to hear thoughts or insider info on this.

Rumors are never true, per se, other than that they may be rumors. So called rumors are mere speculation about as yet unknown future events, that are often created simply because of click bait interest to get attention. Any dates associated with them are even more suspect, as even DJI doesn't know, with any degree of certainty, what it will or won't be doing 5 months from now. Plans change, as does demand, especially in this anti-drone climate, where tariffs abound, and recreational drone use is being further restricted worldwide. However, DJI always seems to come out on top, by pivoting as necessary. They are now also creating motors for e-bikes! Stay tuned!

I Blame APPLE ! Every year a NEW phone and why, mine still makes calls, and many years ago believe it or not thats all a phone was for. The mini 5 will be along in a while maybe they are trying to get all the bugs out of its accounting software.

I was looking forward to the Mini 5 ,was saving my pennies for a long time but got frustrated with the terifs and all so went ahead and bought the Air 3s .At first I was astounded at the two camera set up however when all was said and done I don't think it was worth the price .The mini 4 does an amazing job and for less than half the price ,Heck even the little Neo takes amazing photos even though the weather must be perfect to use it
Disappointed here in Pa
