Stopped by campus police and told I can't fly over campus, even though i had LAANC authorization

You must have ate a double batch of wheaties this morning buddy. Have not seen you so riled up in a long time 🤣
Just sick of entities trying to usurp authority over airspace that have no business doing so. I saw similar complaints with U of M Ann Arbor campus a couple of years ago and they are still pulling the same bullying game. This kind of garbage just gets under my skin.

The Board of Regents at U of M Ann Arbor need to watch this video and learn from the FAA’s Drone Guy Kevin Morris about who controls the airspace over their campus. This show was very enlightening.

Personally, I would stand up for your rights allowed by law! The university cannot control the airspace. You're a 107 pilot, flying legally, with LAANC approval and I am sure safely. Just tired of everyone backing down when confronted by people/law enforcement even though they are within the law to be flying. A policy by the university is not a law and you were not on university property.
Stand up for ALL of your rights or you WILL lose them! Some will say that my opinion "hurts"the drone community. well it's about more than drones. Don't let the feelings police or a Karen stop you from doing what you enjoy doing under legal situations.

Universities or private properties can set their own rules about drone usage over their land, even if they don't control the airspace. It might be worth checking the university's specific policies or local ordinances to avoid any future issues.
Are you suggesting the university can prohibit a southwest airlines commercial flight from flying at 150 feet over the university on the way to the airport 5 miles away because the university "can set their own rules" or is it just drones only?

Their rules say drones, not all aircraft. However, I am with the majority, they don't control the airspace. On the other hand anyone fighting this will have a much larger financial bite out of their pocked fighting that establishment. So they will have to weigh the cost unless they get help from the community.

Im sure there are dozens if not hundreds of universities and colleges that draw up rules and "laws" which apply only to drone use and does not cover aircraft even though they are technically the same when it comes to operation in the airspace. To begin with, that's the way the university can justify the rules by pointing out they are only trying to control the "drones." In my opinion, university rules apply to university students and/or faculty only but you'll also find they include "everybody" and even those who are not on the university if it "affects" the university. Universities have sworn peace officers with statewide jurisdiction, so yes this could be a problem....for all of us. However, it's not the first fight against the education system so it's definitely doable.

About 10-15 minutes into the flight an officer knocked on my car door asking about why I was flying and where I was flying.
How in the world could you have VLOS sitting in your car?

I think this is a big issue with many such encounters including people flying over a Nat'l park or some such place. While some places like the Uni can't control the airspace above them you better be sure you are 100% in line with FAA rules and so many pilots fly well out of VLOS. I mean how far can you really see that Mini 4 Pro??? Not very far. I'd hazard a guess that well over 50% of the videos we see, particularly with the Mini series are done with the drone out of sight. In any case, if you know you're flying over a place that does not want you there, be particularly careful to follow the rules.

No...but they can tell SW Airline they can't take off from the Uni :)>

Someday the lawyers for these campus type situations are going to recognize there is risk to them in trying to regulate the airspace. : )
