I already have a mini four pro and fly for fun mostly as a recreational pilot. I take photographs as I still don’t know exactly how to edit videos as I would like to. However, I am always the guy that wants the latest and greatest of everything. I am having a hard time convincing myself that the jump from the 4 to the 5 is really worth the money. Also I love tree surfing with the Goggles 3 on the Mini 4 Pro and I don’t recall seeing that option on the 5.

While I would love to get the 5, I need to be convinced it is all that and a bag of chips.

You don’t! LOL!
Nobody does. It's a "nice to have" drone though, with some nice upgrades.
Lots of YT comparisons available to the Mini 4 Pro.
Here's one.

Of course you don't need a new drone.
On the other hand, if you want a new drone just get it. It's YOUR decision only.

Realistically, unless you are shooting cinematic video, you won't need the higher features of the Mini 5.
If you're not flying at night, the Lidar isn't going to change things either.

If you're going to buy a mini, the 5 is top of the line right now but a 4 is probably good enough for most folks.

The Mini 4 Pro also has a functional RID blocking capability, when flown with the Mini 4 Pro standard battery.

Even though I bought the Mini 5 Pro, my current Mini is the Mini 3 Pro and I'm saving M5P for a raining day. So many you get it and keep it for one day when you might actually want it.

So you want all drone pilots to fly with a target on their backs, even when not required to do so?
Want to know something about me? I've dealt with people, all my life, who would take a statement and twist it to their narrative.
What I said is NOT what you said. I know it. You know it. Anyone who reads it knows it.
I won't be coerced into the debate that you want to have with a whole lot of gaslighting "gotchas".
Maybe you can find someone else that wants to play that game but it won't be me.

And, no, this isn't me letting you win. This is me saying there's no reason to bother with this type of interaction.

Apologies to anyone who finds this thread hijack in bad taste.

It was a question, not a statement.

You were the one who mischaracterized my helpful, factual, no judgment post #6 above (about the Mini 4 Pro being different than the Mini 5 Pro, in that it does not broadcast RID, which is directly relevant to the OP's question), to which you replied:

"Pfft"
"It's a haughty reply to the assertion that people need to stop broadcasting RID."

Nobody asserted that people need to stop broadcasting RID!
You made that up yourself.

Some people choose to legally fly drones that are not required to broadcast RID, and that is their right. Why would you take issue with that, and be so haughty about it, that you want to derail this thread with false accusations?

You should look in the mirror.
Santa is being very bad and naughty, and not nice.
By your own definition of pfft, you are trying to be arrogantly superior and disdainful, while derailing this thread with your uncalled for haughtiness, akin to trolling.

If you enjoy still photography, rather than video, you will really enjoy this drone. The new sensor is great. I'm loving it! You will too! Buy it! Life is too short to dither...

I have never purchased a drone that I actually "Needed" lol

You need the mini 5 Pro when your emotions tell you that you need the latest mini technology. It's not a difficult decision.

I will soon have 7 of DJI's folding drones. "Need" was never a factor in buying any of them...LOL. "Want" is where it's at.
