Thinking of buying a Mini 4 Pro- should I wait? Pro 5 on the horizon?

Please forgive me if this is common knowledge, I'm not a newb, just have been out of the loop on whether DJI plans on upgrading the Pro 4 to a Pro 5 since it's been out for a year?

Does anyone know what's going on with this?

Thank you in advance. And sorry for those that hate the question. :)

I bought a Mini 4 Pro a few months ago. It is nearly ideal. It had been out long enough for the aftermarket "market" to mature (bags, parallel chargers, ND filters, etc). But if I were ready to buy now, I think I'd be in the same conflict as you seem to be. If you can do without accessories for awhile, I'd wait for the 5. Sorry I can't be more help.

I was having the same thoughts, but after reading all over the www, it doesn't seem to be coming in 2024. Mid 2025 seems to be the word on the web, from the rabbit holes I went down, at least. I went ahead and got the mini pro4 on prime day.

It came this morning and after messing around with it for a bit, I can't wait to see how it does in the field. It'll be nice to not travel with the Mavic 3 pro.

Any answer you receive regarding a release date for a Mini 5 will be pure speculation or rumor.

If you want to fly, buy the Mini 4 Pro now and get to it. If and when a more advanced version is released, and you like it, you can sell the Mini 4 Pro without a great loss. Used DJI drones are highly marketable.

I just recently bought my Mini 4 Pro.
After playing with it a couple times, I can't see much of an improvement that can be made other than flight time.
I'm sure someone will think of something like "add sparkles" or something but I don't see any improvement being worth a speculative wait.

He who waits for the next "good thing" misses out on using the current "good thing".

Flight time, get the bigger batteries! Amazing difference having that extra time.
Time to change settings, experiment with with modes, and of course flying around and farther exploring, etc. all without being rushed.
Another must have in my opinion is the controller with the screen! It’s brighter than any iPad or phone I’ve used in the last and I go to it and throw it up at any moment for anything. No thinking attaching phone, wires, it doesn’t take long but for me it sometimes made the difference is it worth putting it up. Thought I’d miss the larger screen of iPad but didn’t. That bright smaller screen is so much more vivid and viewable.
Also bigger batteries and screened controller will be the setup people will seek out over any other for re-sale. Wow, I rambled but I love it. Stop reading and go push the buy now button! You won’t regret it. No buyer’s remorse except should have done it sooner.

DJI does have a new drone on the way (per new FCC documentation), and it looks like it might be a new version of the Mavic (or a drone of that size) based on the battery size. While I do think we'll see more Minis in the future, I don't think we'll see a new model this year.

you can play that game forever...waiting for the newer version. my recommendation is to evaluate the Pro 4 and decide if it gives you what you think you need. If it does, buy it and start learning and creating great videos. For me the Pro 4 does everything I want and so I can't even imagine what a 5 will give me that I don't have now. I enjoy my Pro 4 almost every day and am so glad I did not wait any longer. Besides, who knows...the price of the 5 might be significantly higher than what you would pay for the 4 now.

you mentioned that the controller has a brighter screen than any iPad or phone. I agree but I still have problems seeing my controller screen when I am outside...especially if it is a sunny day. what do you do on a sunny day? is there something I can do to my settings to make the screen more visible? or do you try to enclose the controller in something that blocks the sun? what is your advice?

I thought I was going to buy that fold down sunscreen at the same time I bought the around the neck lanyard. Lanyard really frees your hands up in an instant. I also feel some support, it really anchors it when little down weight while flying.
Ok, I usually fly in lower light than midday. Most time turning my back to the illumination putting my controller in shadow works when their isn’t a porch roof, awning, or just shade.

I think I’ll look into that folding sunscreen again. I’ve also in the past got under a towel, play like a fort. Or my black umbrella I keep in car.

There's no FCC registration yet on the Mini 5 Pro, so that's a 2025 release at the earliest. The Mavic 4 would be my bet for the next drone release.

And that's not even factoring what happens with the CCP Drones bill in the U.S.

This. If the CCP bill passes, you won't be able to buy new drones from DJI. Best bet at the moment is to buy one now. The bill only restricts new drones.
