I just watched a YouTube video where a guy tosses his Mini 2 for takeoff, similar to the Tello.

YouTube Video

Have any of you tried this? Do you know if this works with the Mavic Mini?

Recent surgery has left me temporarily immobile otherwise I would test this myself in my Mavic Mini (1).

Well with the Tello, you select the throw flight mode before takeoff. I didn't see the MM1 with that option and doubt the MM2 has it.

It would work with any DJI Drone...I wouldn't advise it on some bigger stuff. No reason why it wouldn't work with the Mini (Either/Or). While he might be amazed (The YouTuber) it's not really anything once the aircraft is armed (Motors running) The Tello does a whole different scenario. When you toss it, it auto arms the motors and holds hover.....DO NOT EVER try that with any DJI Products. You must Manually arm motors with DJI (Or any other manufacture) for this to work. :)

No, I haven’t tried it because it’s Emma like a really quick, dumb way to break your equipment.

Basically a hand launch with the 2 double espressos from post #4?

If you sit the drone on the palm of your hand, arm the motors and then lower your hand away from underneath the drone it will start a hover.

I could see this being handy if you were trying to take off from a sandy or dirty/rocky area where the dust may get into the motors and grind them up. I almost never take off from my hand, but land in my hand all the time with my Spark & Mavic Pro. I'm going to give this a try and see if it works for me. I'm not going to "toss" it, I'm going to arm the motors, then lower my hand and see if the drone goes into a hover as described. Still trying to figure out how to arm the motors with one hand. :)

I've tried those, RC flops over in a bad way.
This is the aftermarket I bought for a SC...I love it. I can use lower eyelets to carry it "purse" style, then click it up for flight mode. :) Hangs perfect level...most aftermarket ones for DJI depend on where they attach. I had a iPad 9.7" hanging off the top of a P3P remote, I got it to clip and hang level. One merely needs to modify the fulcrum hang point depending on device. :)

Was able to try the throw takeoff indoors this morning with my MM (1). I tried starting the props and then lightly tossing it about a foot away and a foot up. Drone hovered and held its position without problems. I also tried starting the props and then just removing my hand. The props spun faster and, again, it hovered in place without problems.

Being handicapped, this is going to come in handy when I’m mobile again and able to spend time outside.
