Trying a heli

It's nice to have a selectable Atti mode again. Haven't had that since my P3P.

This is the one I want to get as I work with these guys in real life

I looked at that one first, reviews say it flys better than mine. I chose mine based on looks alone, but they both have the exact same motor and battery and remote. You won't regret going with that model.

I want to say, learning and flying a new brand, a new type of aircraft, one not designed with photography in mind, has given me a renewed appreciation of what DJI actually provides us with. Every single one of my DJI quads, past and present, are superior in every way to this Helicopter. That's saying alot as this heli is a capable aircraft with RTH, GPS, Atti mode, and as stable as any DJI quad. But it took a decade for these Helis to catch up to what DJI provided us so long ago. Anything that flies is a marvel. A tribute to what humans aspire to accomplish. And I just want to acknowledge that I created this thread in a forum devoted to DJI aircraft and that it has only cemented their reputation as a leader in RC aircraft.

So now look what you’ve gone and done!🤣
Back before quad’s were a consumer thing I bought an Align T-Rex 450v2, put it together, fitted the electronics of the day to it and NEVER flew it. Why? Because when I went and practiced on the recommended simulator, I could never land the “thing” without it thrashing itself to pieces and the thing was way too expensive at the time to risk never surviving any flight.
So then quads, first a small Parrot, while waiting the 6 months it took DJI to ship my next drone, the Mavic Pro, followed by a Tello, Autel Nano and Mini 4 and 5 Pro’s. Crashes thankfully only happen if I’m really stupid and I’ve still got all my quad’s, and the 450 heli, which is still unflown. Now I learn (through you) that electronics have caught up somewhat in the rc helicopter world and gps and gyro stabilised electronics are available. Looks like when RID comes in in the UK I’ll be refurbishing and upgrading the 450.

The 450 will require RID

Acttually DJI's first product was a heli controller that did all of this, back in 2010 (Ace One) before any multicopter stuff. Also released a Naza-H and Wookong-H a couple years later.

But multicopters are just so much better in basically every way in terms of utility/reliability that they've been the obvious focus.
The look is pretty much the only thing helis have left for themselves...
