Nice test. All of today's hard cases with fitted foam inserts will provide this level of protection. I love my Nanuk cases.

Obviously our drones should never be in a situation where it falls off a cliff, like in these tests. However, I think these guys were a bit fortunate that there was zero damage to the drone itself. The issue is that even though the drone is physically protected from striking anything, the impact and sudden deceleration could cause other issues. There is only so much the foam can do to take the force of the impact and also spread the deceleration over a longer period of time. What could happen:

• The Mavic Air was a perfect test case for them because in my opinion it has the best (and easiest to install) gimbal lock. Other drones like the MP, M2P, P4, etc... have gimbal locks that could more easily come off with an impact. Thereafter the gimbal would most likely suffer extreme damage with one of these impacts.
• The accelerometer is very sensitive to impact of this nature. It could be damaged very easily and force a replacement of the IMU.

Overall it is very nice to know that these cases work and offer an incredible level of protection. Sure it adds weigh and bulkiness to the package but I prefer that over having less protection.

I fitted the foam in my hard case so that it would hold the Mavic Air holder that came with it. The holder is super protective against most abuse and I don't want to leave it behind...but I'm not about to leave my drone to baggage handlers and I don't want to lug that thing around so it just sits packed and ready to go someplace where it might be necessary..like a war zone..or ?? the home of a friend who has small children..
