Oh well...just have to be even more careful than I realized and not get anywhere close to such areas.
I can only guess from what I have read from other members who have had similar situations. What you really need is to have your telemetry read…
But I will ask, did you let your drone get a good satellite before taking off? Some folk who were anxious to fly take off before the drone had established a home point. I use Galaxy tables (an A8 and a S2) and I turn the volume up on the tablet's speakers so I hear the "Home Point Established" message.
Then again, you might have had spotty satellite reception up there (trees, valleys, mountains, etc…) and your drone was having problems establishing its bearings and once it crossed the Geo-Fence, it got a better lock and that cause the "Ah gee Mom, can't I stay and play some more…" and would not return.
One member who was flying off some islands off the Scottish coast got caught on the wrong side of a Geo-Fence, over the sea and could only fly back and forth over the water until his battery died. When his telemetry was broken down and analyzed, it was discovered that he did not have enough satellites to establish a location and flew beyond the Geo-Fence and once inside, the drone received enough satellites to find itself and I guess that the way the software is written and the interfaces with the firmware, it could not cross the Geo-fence even to get out…
I've never flown around a Geo-Fence, but I played with the Max-distance and Max-altitude setting on the Fly App and it's interesting how my
Mini 2 responded. It was almost like it hit an invisible wall, the drone flew around and around the "invisible wall" when it reached the max distance and when it hit the max altitude, it would not climb any higher. It was like flying inside an invisible tin can or cylinder…
But I guess you can count yourself luck that you were able to recover you baby…
