Use of ipad with mavic mini

I am interested in buying an IPAD to use with my Mavic Mini. Which IPAD will work the best. IPAD 5? Is cellular service necessary?

Cellular service is not *necessary*, but the cellular-capable iPad mini 5 has GPS onboard, while the non-cellular iPads lack the hardware for GPS.

I've been using an iPad mini 5 cellular without a cellular plan. Works fine.

Other than the directional indicator in DJI Fly, and resetting RTH on-the-fly, you are correct.

I primarily use the GPS on the iPad for APRS functions while I'm out chasing the weather.

If you want the online maps to work, you need a cellular or WIFI connection. You can cache the maps before you go out, though, then you don't need the connection. But the drone flies fine without Cellular/WIFI as others have stated.

Ipad Mini 5 would be the best if you want an 8in screen size

I presently use iPad 5 for my MM. Its faster processor and ideal size makes it the best .
