Legend has it that this area of the Raritan Bay in New Jersey was once frequented by Rum Runners and that pirate gold is still buried there. At the end of the cobblestone Old Spy Road ( next to the train drawbridge) spies were hung. The Great Beds Lighthouse was built to protect the beds of oysters. Someone lived in the lighthouse until 1943 when it was automated. Several of its caretakers mysteriously died or were murdered.
