It's there for emergency shutdown (safety) see my post above (#16) and numbers 17, 18 and 19.Who on earth would do a CSC in mid air? On purpose? 'Oh look, my quadcopters flying, I wonder what will happen if I stop the engines?.......boo hooo hoooo, I damaged it.....'

If your aircraft was heading straight for a freeway/road or for a group of people/children or another aircraft you would emergency ditch it.
It's in my ops manual as an emergency procedure.
It has been a feature of every DJI platform and flight controller since the early incarnation of the Naza and also the likes of WooKong, A2's etc
