I thought I had seen and taken note of an App or something where you can take a picture or screen shot (of a map) and then overlay where the images were taken in a fairly quick and automatic way.

I'd like to give my clients a sort of "Image Map" so they can get an idea of what the image is depicting etc for those who can't easily decipher Aerial Images.

Mini 4 Pro if that matters.

Basically something similar to this VERY rough draft:

Trying to understand. I don’t really get what you were wanting.

Hey Al.

A lot of image editors will show where a single image that is geo-tagged is captured from. I do what I think you are talking about for customer's imagery of acreage where it is difficult for them to have situational awareness.

I just drop the set into Metashape and overlay the camera positions onto a satellite image layer. It doesn't show the direction of the camera like you are wanting. But, I include the location of the subject property (magenta in my example) so the client can infer that the camera was pointing at the subject from it's location. Maybe some of this workflow would be useful for your needs?

An example:

Dave you nailed it. Also, I found the "error of my process" while going through your reply. My problem is "Self Created" in that I'm shooting in 5-Shot AEB and when the images are being combined the GEP TAG info is scrubbed by the editor when I'm combining them. I just need to ONE of the original images to get that DATA from and then add it back on the map. (copy & paste).

Appreciate that input and your reason is exactly why I'm doing this. We are doing a LOT of land documenting and it's hard to explain to some clients exactly where the imagery is shot because after Hurricane HELEN the land looks nothing like it does on the Satellite image.

Now I think I can use your process

This sounds suspiciously like that ginormous mapping project you talked about some weeks ago 😁😁

Did it with an M4P? Impressive.

I stumbled upon the Media Map in AirData and this would be AWESOME (and super easy) if I could refine which images/data were included. I may do some, in the future, with ONLY the Compass Direction images on a single flight. This would make this one part of the project incredibly quick, easy, and efficient.

I can’t help but think this odd a process that can be easily scripted/automated in some way. I work with GIS in my day job and I’ve always had to find ways to add data to a map that comes from irregular sources.
Here’s my thinking, if you have all your geotagged photos in a single folder there should be a way to have a program extract all the image metadata into a single file. (Maybe Exif tool or something similar). Once you have that, it’s just a matter of organizing that data into a structured format that you could then import into a GIS program (there are some free/opensource programs, even Google earth would do). At that point you could pick and chose what information you want plotted on the map (eg: position, camera tilt angle, compass direction, time, etc)
I’m intrigued- might just go fly the drone today and see if I can do this.

Google My Maps offers a basic solution. You can create a custom map, upload photos to Google Photos and then import them into a layer on the map. They show up as a small icon that can be expanded into a larger version of the photo.

Interesting. Import the images or import and display the metadata?
Import the images. They have to be uploaded to Google Photos and then imported into a layer on a Google My Map.

Here's a quick example. Look for the photo icon in the northeast arm of the harbor.

I like it. Must be a way to add labels too. Will play around with it.

It's a somewhat cumbersome process and there are some disappointing limitations. It displays the closest street address, which becomes amusing if you include photos of locations far from streets. It is possible to switch that off. You can also edit the title and add text below the image. There's no option to expand the image beyond the first popup size.
