Hello everyone,

Today i recieved my ND/PL filters from Neewer. After spending a good 10 minutes to get it installed (tried to not damage anything...) i finally managed to screw it in and it looked pretty good.
So of course i went somewhere to fly it and i notices a few things, first the polarizing effect isn't that impressive (maybe i didn't adjusted it good enough or maybe the neewer ones aren't that great ?) and second and most important one, there was a very weird brightness glitch everytime i oriented my gimbal down to the ground (like if i had my settings on auto, which i didn't) and completely darkened the image (thus ruining it...).
This is what i'm talking about :
https://jorisbarbe.fr/360photos/wtf.html
https://jorisbarbe.fr/360photos/7.html
These are the two 360 sphere photos i took today, notice the big weird black circle, that's when the gimbal went past a certain angle. Does this look like a polarizing effect or more like a camera setting glitch ? (the photos are stored on my personal website so it might take a bit of time to load)

Also i want to say that after a bit of flight time, my gimbal completely lost her mind and started shaking while saying "gimbal overload" and i read that maybe the filter was not screwed enough, could that be the problem ?
I'll do some more tests tomorrow with and without the filter, but i'd like to know what you guys think. Thanks.

(Sorry if my english is bad, it's not my first language, and sorry if i've made any mistakes regarding the forum rules, it's my first time here)

Hey welcome! Your English is excellent! Would have never know if you hadn’t said anything.

A PL filter is aweful for 360 photos for this very reason. A PL only allows light through it at certain angles so to use one properly you have to readjust it when ever your camera angle changes in regards to the sun. You can find a neutral angle so that it isn’t so bad but you are better off not using a PL filter for these 360 shots.

It also looks like the sun is setting in this picture which can cause difficulty because the light changes so rapidly by the time the pano **** is finished the correct exposure you set at the beginning probably isn’t ideal by the end shots.

Thanks !

I honestly didn't really know a lot about polarizing filters and that's why i bought cheap ones, but glad that's normal and not a glitch from my mavic, i will take it off next time for 360 photos.

Anyway thanks for the quick answer and the pro tips !

I didn't think your panos were TOO bad :)
Have you done any post on them in one of the editing programmes ?

Brett is spot on with info on PL filters, use them for shots over water of other reflective surfaces to reduce glare, 'see through water', but they need a lot of adjusting to get right, for any direction you fly.

Sounds like Neewer might at least be able to be turned to adjust ?
As they screw on they may have a separate adjustment ring you can turn by hand ?

Gimbal overload is common with filters, usually that weight too much (up to 1.2g is ok) . . . OR are not fitted properly.
Yours being screwed on may be fitted fine if nipped up, the older push on types are prone to incorrect fit if not pushed right down to the line on the gimbal (of the MP original and platinum).

I would take such pics / panos with out any filter, maybe an NC-UV if there is one for the M2Z.

Enjoy the new hobby.

Yeah they don't look too bad but compared to the other ones i did ( Index of /360photos you can check them here, click on the html files) it does look disappointing.

I think i'll stick with the ND (non PL) filters for the beginning, but yes the neewer filters can be adjusted and honestly build quality is really not bad at all, they cheaped out on the packaging but who can blame them. Regarding gimbal overload i think it weren't tight enough since i did a full first flight without any problems, and after changing the battery and flying for two or three minutes, the gimbal went crazy.

Thanks for the answer !
