What free Windows software is effective for converting the DNG raw files to jpg??

If you only want a program to convert DNG to JPEG, then Paint will do that.
None of the fancy stuff of the paid parogrames / apps, but this is a simple conversion.

I tried that using Paint (latest updates Windows 10) and it doesn't recognize .dng files

Hey, thanks for pointing that out !
I was used to very occasionally using paint to convert raw, but they were probably tiffs.

Now I use basic MS editors and save as jpeg, but mostly my raw and jpegs just sit in a folder for perusal at times.
