What good is a 3 axes gimbal if I can't pan?

I thought that when I upgraded from a Spark with 2 axes gimbal to a Mavic Pro with 3 I'd get smother video because I didn't have to rotate the AC to pan, Now, as I understand, there is no pilot control available of x-axes rotation on the Mavic gimbal. Why not? What is it used for?

Have you tried Cinematic and/or Tripod modes?

if you want a DJI drone that has a gimbal that pans without yawing the whole aircraft ,then you need to spend considerably more than a mavic costs, the gimbal is to keep the image still while the drone constantly moves about during flight, and for the size of it it does a pretty good job, as others have said, adjusting the settings and practicing your yawing techniques will give an acceptable result

Go into settings for sensitivity and change curve on Yaw. It makes it nice and gets very good panning, once it is set right. You tube has videos on setting sensitivity and EXP in the controller. The finger acroos screen is to uncontroable and will give u bad video.

Does the MP have the pan trick with the screen?
The pan/yaw and roll axes were for better image stabilization. Gimbal will yaw some as you yaw the craft but also if the AC happens to yaw a bit on its own to stay on track with what it's pointing at.
You can observe the gimbal yaw behavior by manually moving the AC when not flying. You can also observe tilt and roll.

All you need to do is invest I a set of the DJI goggles! With them you can do what you are looking so do.
The goggles let you do:
1. You can steer the mavic 2 with you head movements. It only rotates left or right. Not up and down. Then you can control the gimbal with your remote.
2. And this is the best. You can control the actual gimbal with your head movement. So you fly straight ahead and with you head you turn to the right and look up. You can see the forward propeller spinning. You have full control of the gimbal by moving your head. It’s pretty cool. That’s the whole reason I bought the drone. Was to do that and the goggles are the trick. It sucks sometimes because i am old and need to wear some cheap reading glasses as I can’t see close up well any longer.

I picked up a refurbished set of the original ones for something like. Don’t quote me on the price, $325.
Remember to use a spotter when using the goggles.

Last month while vacationing in the Outer Banks I saw another Mavic flyer. This guy was new to the hobby and had bought a pair of the DJI goggles. I didn't get to check them out but I did see him loose total control of his drone and crash it. He was flying it with the goggles on and slowly walking around. He tripped and fell, he didn't let go of the controller and the Mavic practically nosed dived into the wet sand. This happened about a 100 ft away. I felt bad for the guy but I have to admit I had to bit my tongue to keep me from bursting out in laughter.

Haven't tried goggles for any sort of FPV or VR, but I imagine this would be a major thing to have happen to many people.
It's like people (including me) that like to walk around when talking on the phone.
