What Happens When You "Can't" Regain RC Connection?

I have a Mavic Air and have a question; Let's say I'm out flying and I lost RC connection and for some reason I couldn't re-connect and my RTH is set to hover. Will it just hover at it's altitude at the time of disconnect until it runs out of battery and free fall? Are there any other alternatives? This has me really concerned especially if I'm flying over a lake. I'd like to add, I'm avid about keeping VLOS but, as you know, free fall would be disastrous. Thanks, Ray

It will hover until the battery reaches the critically low level. At that point, it will auto land at its current location.
