ive been on a few boards and have bought and sold items and usually if an item is in new or like new condition then the asking price is around 70-75% of retail price
ive seen items being sold here with asking prices of 90%+ full price,is this the norm for drone items?
Here are a few things for you to consider.
Checking recently sold Mavics on eBay is a good indicator of what new, used, and refurbed Mavics sell for, but with eBay, you might have to ship internationally to sell it quickly and to get a good price, and you will need to pay eBay and Paypal 13% of your gross sales price. If your drone sells for $750, you net around $650.These days, there are sellers on eBay selling refurbs for $699 with at least a 3 month warranty, so an asking price of $750 with no accessories might take a while to sell.
Another problem for selling a used Mavic now is that on January 23rd, DJI is coming out with a new drone. Not sure what it is yet, but if it is better than the Spark, has many features of the Mavic, and has a price tag under $800, that is what people are going to be holding out for. They arent going to be as interested in a used Mavic for $750. There's always that one person out there who knows nothing about the new release, and he will be your buyer.
I have bought sold and repaired hundreds of DJI products, and I sold 6 Mavics online and locally within the past week. I know what the magic dollar number is to sell it quickly right now, and it is right around 70-75% of retail price, if retail price is $865 (current B and H Photo price). I live in a metropolitan area of around 6 million people. If you have a while to wait to sell it, the spring and summer will bring out more buyers, but then you have the new release to contend with, if it is a drone in between the Mavic and the Spark.
To those of us who have perfectly good Mavics, I believe you should keep flying it. Some of us are into the latest and greatest, and some will dump their Mavics, but not me. The Mavic is the best bang for the buck right now, and is, IMO, the most economic and best designed drone DJI ever produced on the consumer level.
