Trying to remember if I’ve ever seen a mavic say it was required. I know my touchy little air does that, but I can’t think of one time any of my mp’s (down to four now) have asked. So, you get a message that states you need to calibrate the compass?
The camera based OA is video image. The M2 also has IR on top and bottom for distance calculations.I don't know the definitive answer but since the M2 uses VPS for PL, I'd say it pretty much has to be an image that can be aligned for landing.
Some research on that subject may save you some dance time. I’ve seen people on this forum that recalibrate the compass before every flight because they “don’t want to lose their drone”. Total waste of time other than the placebo effect. Other side of the globe? Maybe. Two thousand miles? Bunk.It rarely tells you to re-calibrate compass, but it’s always a good idea if you are flying in a different geographical location than the last time.

True. However, better advice can be found here:This compass calibration attachment from the latest M2 user guide says otherwise.
Yep! DJI has never given great advice on calibrating the compass. They often contradict themselves.Seems to be a slight contradiction between the two
