In the evening of 1 January, a wind turbine burnt down just across Losser's border with Germany, near Gildehaus, a borough of the municipality of Bad Bentheim in the German state of Lower Saxony. The Gildehaus volunteer fire brigade received the report of the fire on Nordhornerweg around 19.40. A fire broke out at the head of the turbine at a height of about 100 metres for reasons that are still unexplained. According to various media, the fire could be seen as far away as the Netherlands. Various media also reported that it was a wind turbine belonging to wind farm operator Prowind (GmbH). Judging from the location on the Gildehaus fire brigade photos, compared to Google, this appears to be one of two wind turbines by Danish manufacturer Vestas. Under the supervision of the fire brigade, the turbine was burned down in a controlled manner. At no time was there any danger to people, property or road traffic. The material damage is estimated at around 1,000,000 euros, the police reported. Source: windenergie-nieuws.nl
