So anyone else experiencing this joy with their new shiny Mavic Air 2 hyper lapse footage?!?! I feel like I am beta testing this thing. Ugh

pretty sure your issue is your laptop and software. You're having an h.265 issue. I think I've seen this issue discussed several times here

I am using a pretty hardcore 5K iMac with 64GB memory and Final Cut Pro X....wouldn't think it wouldn't work or play back properly? What is the remedy then?

search the forum for the 2 grey square problem, or just shoot in h.264 and see. Maybe it's the software and not the hardware or maybe you just need a patch on the mac. I didn't follow the thread as I don't use a mac much and my 3 year old 4k laptop handles h.265 playback and editing quite well.
